Celtic have been ordered to pay a fine of £13,160 (€15,000) for the 'provocative banner' displayed following the Queen's death during their Champions League fixture against Shakhtar Donetsk. UEFA announced on September 8, following the Queen's death, that European matches would see a moment of silence observed at matches involving British teams.

That night saw games involving Arsenal, Manchester United and West Ham all pay their respects, the latter of which saw fans break out into song of the national anthem. More followed the week after, but it was agreed before Celtic's fixture against Shakhtar Donetsk that it would be scrapped.

Players instead wore black armbands as a mark of respect, but a banner was unveiled prior to kick-off which read: "F*** the crown". BT Sport were forced to apologise to viewers after zooming in on the anti-monarch banner.

Commentator Rob MacLean said: "Apologies if anyone has taken offence to anything seen in the early minutes." UEFA confirmed later in the week that they had begun an investigation into Celtic for the expletive banner.

"Please be informed that proceedings have been opened against Celtic regarding a banner displayed during their UEFA Champions League match against FC Shakhtar Donetsk. The UEFA disciplinary bodies will decide on the matter in due course.”

UEFA have now published the latest disciplinary decisions taken by the Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body (CEDB) throughout the opening stages of the European competitions. And Celtic have been issued a fine worth £13,160 for the anti-monarch banner.

The statement read: "Message not fit for a sports event (i.e. provocative banner), Art. 16(2)(e) DR."

That's not the only punishment Celtic have received from UEFA following their first three matches of the Champions League campaign.

Ahead of the game against Real Madrid, fans presented a large tifo of a leprechaun in a Celtic jersey, along with the tagline 'back with a bang'.

Fans also lit flares and fireworks to go along with the display, and UEFA have now punished them too for the incident.

Celtic have been fined a separate £3,700 (€4,250) with UEFA's reasoning being: "Lighting of fireworks, Art. 16(2)(c) DR."
