The current trend of hybrid skincare/makeup has seen us demanding more and more from our makeup. Skin enhancing foundations and base products, once created to even out skin tone and cover imperfections, are now asked to blur lines, diffuse pigmentation, protect us from the sun, screens and pollution - all while rolling back the years with the help of additional skin nutrients.

Similarly, our lipsticks have also never worked harder and the quality and range of lip products has never been better.

Gone are the days of funny tasting chalky, drying, lipsticks and glosses with chunks of grit and the power to glue down a toupee, driving us mad grabbing every last stray strand of hair!

Lately we've been welcoming everlasting, non-drying matte lipsticks like the incredible Maybelline Superstay Vinyl Ink (€14.95 on CloudBeauty) and 'chic gloss' like the ultra comfortable and lightweight 'Posh Gloss', by Victoria Beckham Beauty (€30 on VBBeauty) a summer staple for me this year.

But let's talk super juicy, lip-enhancing products that have been making waves around the world.

Make Up By Mario's not happy solely creating lipsticks and glosses, he's now inventing his own lip products like 'Moistureglow' (€28 on makeupbymario.com) the trademarked name for a super juicy lip plumping gloss/serum hybrid.

It boasts a range of lip-loving nutrients, comes in a range of shades (with a new one dropping every Monday for the rest of the summer) and promises to hydrate and plump up lips while delivering incredible shine.

As we know, hydrated skin/lips will always appear plumper and this beauty does not disappoint, your lips will feel smooth, shiny and super pumped with hydration. I personally love this product but it's worth noting that it is very thick upon application, which some may find too much (I'm a 'more is more girl').

I popped up a question box on my personal Instagram stories asking followers for their favourite lipsticks and (no surprise) the winning brand was Charlotte Tilbury by a mile, with Happikiss getting a special mention from a fellow dry lip sufferers!

As the name suggests, Charlotte Tilbury's 'Hyaluronic Happikiss' (€32 on charlottetilbury.com) is infused with 'Hyaluronic Acid' for hydration and is Tilbury's 'Lipstick Balm', a hybrid lip product that's going to change how you feel about traditional tinted lip balms. Think high gloss and plumped lips with a slightly lighter formula to 'Moistureglow'.

Before I name the hardest working Irish lip products in my makeup bag, a special mention to an absolutely beautiful high shine, nourishing, hydrating lipstick that delivers incredible gloss and moisture with powerful pigments in literally one swipe.

The YSL Rouge Volupté Shine Lipstick, nicknamed 'Oil in a Stick' is a super glossy lipstick that will feel just as hydrating as your favourite lip balm but the real selling point for me is the luminous colour, these shades pop like no other! Worth the investment, although it's currently on sale for €31.60 in Boots.
