An all-new Need For Speed racing game is just about to start its engine. NFS Unbound mixes familiar features with a dramatic and bold set of graphical elements. The “most realistic looking cars in the franchise’s history” combine with overt aspects of street art to help this Need For Speed stand apart.
Like most other titles in this segment, campaign mode sees players start with few resources as they aim to work their way up the street racing scene. The defining trigger event includes a robbery at a family auto shop that includes a priceless stolen car. Despite that similarity to older titles, NFS Unbound promises to stand on its own attributes.
Taking risks and self-expression are key components and EA says that for the first time in a NFS game, “true consequence with impactful risk and reward for every race, decision and side bet made.” Players will need to decide how to handle their own in-game notoriety too. As they build up “heat” around town rewards for evading police and consequences for getting caught both increases.

Need for Speed Unbound is available for pre-order through November 29, 2022. That’s also the same day that EA Play members can play a 10-hour trial of the game. EA Play Pro members get the same chance but they won’t have a time limit. In addition, Pro members will get to play the Unbound Palace Edition. It’s been created in accord with Palace Skateboards and offers extra features, free cars, and more. It’ll launch with 143 cars including brands like Lamborghini, Polestar, and Mercury.
EA has offered big incentives for those who pre-order. “Players who pre-order now will receive an exclusive pack of Unbound content, including a driving effects pack, decals, license plate, banner artwork, stickers, and $150,000 Bank in their wallet when they first join multiplayer and more.”
Need for Speed Unbound launches in retail and digital storefronts on December 2, 2022. It’s the first in the series to feature 4K resolution at 60 FPS on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and PC via the EA app, Origin, Steam and Epic Game Store. It’ll cost $69.99. Need for Speed Unbound Palace Edition is $10 more at $79.99
